OG image size
Use 1200×630 pixels (a 1.91:1 ratio) for og:image.
It meets Facebook's and LinkedIn's published recommendations, and X shows it as a large
card. The table below lists each platform's own numbers with the documentation they come from.

Sizes by platform
| Platform | Ratio | Recommended | Minimum | Maximum | File size |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Facebook Link share image (og:image) | 1.91:1 | 1200×630 or larger | 200×200 | — | 8 MB |
| LinkedIn Link post image (og:image) | 1.91:1 | — | 1200×627 | — | 5 MB |
| X (Twitter) summary_large_image | 2:1 | — | 300×157 | 4096×4096 | 5 MB |
| X (Twitter) summary | 1:1 | — | 144×144 | 4096×4096 | 5 MB |
A dash means the platform's documentation does not state that value.

Slack and Discord publish no recommended image size, so this page lists none for them. Set the
same og:image tag and they have the image to work with.
Formats and file size
- Format: PNG or JPEG work everywhere. X also takes WEBP and GIF (first frame only) and does not support SVG.
- File size: Facebook accepts up to 8 MB, LinkedIn and X up to 5 MB. Smaller is better: a crawler that times out shows no image at all. The OG image checker flags images over 300 KB.
- URL: an absolute https URL that loads without a login. See og:image not showing when a preview stays empty.
Keep text in the safe area
One image is shown in several frames, so design for the overlap:
- 2:1 crop on X. A 1200×630 image shown at 2:1 is 1200×600, so up to 30 pixels of height can be cut. Keep text and logos away from the top and bottom edges.
- Square thumbnails. X's summary card is 1:1. Where a client shows a square crop of a wide image, only the middle of the frame survives, so put the title and logo near the center.
- Small sizes. Previews are often shown at a fraction of 1200 pixels wide. Use large type and a few words; the page title next to the image carries the rest.
- Margins. Leave a clear margin on every side so rounded corners and borders never touch text.
How ogmake renders the right size
Every ogmake render is 1200×630 by default, so a template drops straight into
og:image with no resizing. Three parameters change the output, on a
signed URL, a public URL or a POST /v1/images request:
| preset | Size | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| og | 1200×630 | Default. Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord and X large cards. |
| x | 1200×600 | An exact 2:1 frame for X's summary_large_image card. |
| square | 1080×1080 | A 1:1 frame for square thumbnails such as X's summary card. |
scale=2renders at twice the pixels (2400×1260 for the default preset) for sharp previews on high-density screens.formatis one ofpng,jpg,webp,pdf; PNG is the default.- The API response reports the rendered
width,height,formatandbytes, so you can write the matching tags.
A complete head block for a 1200×630 card:
<meta property="og:image" content="https://ogmake.com/i/{keyId}/{sig}?template=basic&title=Hello%20World">
<meta property="og:image:width" content="1200">
<meta property="og:image:height" content="630">
<meta property="og:image:alt" content="Hello World">
<meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image"> Start with the quickstart, see every parameter in the API reference, write the rest of your tags with the meta tag generator, or make a single image in the free OG image generator.
Questions
What is the best og:image size?
1200×630 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio. Facebook recommends at least 1200×630, LinkedIn asks for at least 1200×627 at 1.91:1, and X shows it as a large 2:1 card that may crop it slightly.
What size is a Twitter (X) card image?
For summary_large_image, X documents a 2:1 ratio, at least 300×157 and at most 4096×4096 pixels, under 5 MB. For the small summary card it is 1:1, at least 144×144. ogmake's preset=x renders an exact 1200×600 frame.
What size is a LinkedIn link preview image?
LinkedIn lists a 1.91:1 ratio, a minimum of 1200×627 pixels and a 5 MB maximum file size. A 1200×630 card meets all three.
What file size and format should the image be?
Facebook accepts up to 8 MB, LinkedIn and X up to 5 MB. Use PNG or JPEG for the widest support and keep the file small so every crawler fetches it quickly; the OG image checker flags images over 300 KB. X does not support SVG.
Should I add og:image:width and og:image:height?
Yes. They are part of the Open Graph protocol, and Facebook's documentation says they let its crawler render the image on the first share instead of processing it asynchronously first.
